Monster Culture

The seventh thesis “The Monster Stands at the Threshold…of Becoming” brings attention to the fact that we are the creators of monsters. They make us question why we have created them; how we perceive the world, how we have misinterpreted so that we can reevaluate cultural assumptions about the different. Although we are the ones that have created them we still fear them. In the article I found they talk about the reason that we invented monsters. Monster comes from the Latin word monstrare, “to show,” and monere, “to warn.” Monsters are warning signs, reminding us of the many threatening creatures lurking in the environment eager to gobble us up. The thought and image and of monsters is wired into people’s brains. Monsters are created by mother nature but are not the mythical creatures you see in movies. Monsters are a fear for some but are natural creatures that have been created by mother nature.
