Woman in Cabin 10 Quote 2

“Was it really possible she was dead?
But the alternative was not much better. Because if she wasn’t, the only other possibility – and suddenly I wasn’t sure if it was better or worse – was that I was going mad.”

There was a murder on the boat and Lo was determined to solve the mystery of who it was. Nobody knew anything about a murder besides her so she tried to figure out who lived in the cabin because she believed it was the women she had met. All the passengers were accounted for so it was unclear who it could have been. It turned out to be Bullmer and Anne’s bodies that were taken out of the sea.

Phantom of the Opera Connection

The lead singer of KISS, Paul Stanley feels a strong connection to the main character in “The Phantom of the Opera”. He was born deaf in his left ear and struggled in life dealing with this problem. As a fan of musical theatre he was amazed by the composer of “Phantom of the Opera”. The time that he saw the play performed changed his life forever. Eleven years after seeing the show for the first time he was offered an audition to play the part of Phantom and got to play him in the Toronto company. It was one of the hardest things he’s ever done but he loved and it and connects it to his life.

Phantom of the Opera Quote 1

“The misfortune is,” said Raoul, with a grin, “that it’s quite possible. With Erik, you never know. Is it Erik? Is it the cat? Is it the ghost? No, with Erik, you can’t tell!” Raoul, page 53

Raoul’s obsession with Erik starts to affect his relationship with his older brother because of the fact that he learns that he is shooting cats in the middle of the night. This makes their relationship worse because of his love for Christine, Raoul chooses her over Phillipe. Raoul is constantly showing immaturity when it comes to love. He shows no intention of being in a committed relationship. His reckless and selfish behavior makes marrying Christine more difficult than needed.

Monster Culture

The seventh thesis “The Monster Stands at the Threshold…of Becoming” brings attention to the fact that we are the creators of monsters. They make us question why we have created them; how we perceive the world, how we have misinterpreted so that we can reevaluate cultural assumptions about the different. Although we are the ones that have created them we still fear them. In the article I found they talk about the reason that we invented monsters. Monster comes from the Latin word monstrare, “to show,” and monere, “to warn.” Monsters are warning signs, reminding us of the many threatening creatures lurking in the environment eager to gobble us up. The thought and image and of monsters is wired into people’s brains. Monsters are created by mother nature but are not the mythical creatures you see in movies. Monsters are a fear for some but are natural creatures that have been created by mother nature.

Twilight Readings Question

In the second reading “TWILIGHT AS A CULTURAL FORCE” they mention toward the end how the author got their inspiration for the Quileute tribe. She looked up what the rainiest place was in the United States and found it to be Forks, Washington. She then discovered a nearby tribe, the Quileute Nation, and checked out its Web site. She took the Quileute creation story of wolves transformed to men and adapted it in Twilight into what has come to be known as the Wolf Pack. Some of the people who are apart of the Wolf Pack got offended because in the book she portrays them as werewolves and they are not so that got some of them upset. I don’t understand why they would be so upset when they got recognition because of this book and have gotten a lot of tourists to the area. They also have sold some more items on their website because of the recognition they have received from the book and movie. It just confuses me why this would upset them but I guess everyone has their own opinions.

Twilight Quote 2 Connection

Bella: “Come and get it, then,” I challenged.

Edward: “Soon, as soon as I possibly can. I will make you safe first.” His voice was hard.

Bella: “I love you,” I reminded him.

Edward: “Could you believe that, despite everything I’ve put you through, I love you, too?” (20.139-143)

In this conversation Edward is feeling conflicted about his relationship with Bella. He thinks that that could be putting her in danger by being in a relationship together. This quote related to Wizards of Waverly Place when Justin meets Juliet who is a vampire and they fall in love but worry about their families feud because of their competing businesses. All of this starts happening in season 2 episode 26 and continues on throughout the series. These two things relate because they both involve a relationship with a vampire. In both relationships they are worried about what the consequences will be if they persue their relationship.

Twilight Quote 1

“And I knew in that I had my answer. I didn’t know if there ever was a choice, really. I was already in too deep. Now that I knew—if I knew—I could do nothing about my frightening secret. Because when I thought of him, of his voice, his hypnotic eyes, the magnetic force of his personality, I wanted nothing more than to be with him right now.”

Chapter 7 Page 139

At this point in the book Bella makes the decision that she is not going to let anything stop her from being with Edward. She realizes that although she is a monster/ vampire she isnt gonna let that stop her. Even though this is a dangerous situation she cannot let her feelings go unnoticed. Bella clearly has very strong feelings for Edward that are not going away that she sees that there is no real choice here but to be with Edward.
